The New Discoveries Learning Center Child Care Program is dedicated to the education and development of all children, including those with special education needs. This licensed program provides quality care for children ages six weeks through five years of age, as well as before and after-school program for five to twelve year olds.

Child Care Program:

Each child’s day is filled with hands-on activities that enhance the development of the whole child. The overall growth of the child is promoted in a supportive, confidence-building environment.

Books, music, field trips, art, language, science and math activities are used to encourage children to explore the world around them. These activities include:

• Muscular development through indoor and outdoor play
• Using language to express ideas, thoughts and feelings, and to increase knowledge
• Introducing new and different objects to stimulate conversation
• Stimulating interests through field trips, reading, books, play, films, and music
• Working and playing with others
• Playing instruments, singing and listening to music
• Learning to share, take turns and to play well with others
• Using a wide variety of educational materials such as puzzles, computers, manipulative toys, nature objects, science materials, table games, books, art materials, musical instruments and items for imaginative play

For children with special needs, therapy programs and special developmental classes can be provided by licensed staff during the childcare day.

Parent Involvement:

Parent involvement is always encouraged at New Discoveries Learning Center. Many parents stop in for a visit, to share lunch, or have fun at playtime. Parents wishing to volunteer in the program also are welcome. A minimum of two parent-teacher’s conferences are scheduled each year at the convenience of the parent.

Staff:

At New Discoveries Learning Center, there are trained, qualified staff for each age group, with staff to child ratios of: one staff to four infants, one staff to five toddlers, one staff to seven preschoolers, and one staff to 10 school-age children. These ratios allow staff to maximize quality and one-to-one interactions with a child. Teachers and caregivers have backgrounds in early childhood education and/or experience working with infants, toddlers, preschoolers and school-age children. Physical, occupational and speech therapists also are on staff at New Discoveries Learning Center.

Services and Rates:

The Child Care Program is open year-round, five days a week, except for seven holidays and one staff training day. A nurse is available at each site.

Fees for the Child Care Program are comparable to other local day care programs, and are eligible for all appropriate tax credits.
